I don’t want to get your hopes up here, but multiple sources inside the GOP are starting to whisper about the soon-to-be announced “New and Improved” plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.

Earlier this week, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) was giving a speech in London where he told his audience that the GOP was very close on a deal for a new healthcare plan.

“We’re very close, and it’s basically, make good on the promises that were made,” he said. “It’s just going to take us a little time to make good on that.”

Then on Wednesday, President Trump told a local news station in Wisconsin that a new healthcare deal was imminent.

I think we are going to have a big win soon because we are going to have healthcare because I believe that’s going to happen…

You know there was no, like loss with healthcare, this is just a constant negotiation. and the plan is getting better, better all the time.

Earlier today, CNN’s MJ Lee reported that sources had told CNN that the GOP was very close to a “breakthrough” and that a deal could be done very soon. Lee told viewers that “We know that Vice President Pence has been involved with trying to have more conversation with the House GOP caucus.”

Then later in the day on Thursday Fox Business’ Charlie Gasparino reported that the Freedom Caucus (the conservative/libertarian wing of the House GOP) was in the process of debating a new plan that had been presented to them by House leadership. Gasparino cautioned viewers about being too optimistic because the newest GOP plan still had coverage of “pre-existing conditions,” which was something that the House conservatives had balked at in the last iteration of the healthcare plan.

However, it seems that the other compromises offered by the more moderate members of the GOP may be enough to assuage concerns because CNBC says that some 20-30 members of the Freedom Caucus have signaled that they may be ready to support the latest healthcare plan.

Politico has the text of the MacArthur Amendment here.

MacArthur Plan for GOP healthcare

The deal isn’t done yet, but the GOP is close and my sense is that this deal will be done soon. The real question is, will the House deal make it through the Senate?
