Charles Barkley became famous as the powerful Power Forward for the Philadelphia 76ers, the Phoenix Suns, and the Houston Rockets but he’s kept his fame over the years through insightful basketball commentary and his occasional thoughtful interviews on pop culture and politics.
While Barkley is divisive when it comes to basketball, he still hates the New York Knicks, he’s tried to be more unifying when it comes to real world issues.
He’s never been mistaken for a conservative, but he’s often willing to speak out against his own Party (the Democrats) when he sees them going astray.
In a recent, short interview with Rick Karle, Barkley explains why he thinks the recent furor over Confederate statues and a few neo-Nazis is counterproductive.
Barkley doesn’t defend the statues, or the racism, but he recognizes that neither is important enough to spend the kind of time that our nation is currently spending on them. The monuments and memorials belong to the past and arguing about tearing them down only causes divisions that need not exist. The white nationalist, white supremacists, and alt-right only make up a tiny percentage of our population and we only empower them by pretending that they wield more influence than they do.
Let’s stop talking about all of these things and focus on “REAL” issues.

Sometimes Sir Charles still gets a slam dunk. Spend time improving lives, not fighting with people. https://t.co/kTPegw521t
