Louisiana officials say they are still searching for a man who disappeared following an explosion of an off-shore oil rig late Sunday.

Seven of the eight people working on or near the rig at the time of the blast have been taken to the hospital with five of the employees in critical condition.

Witnesses say they heard a loud boom, and saw smoke and flames visible from the shore of Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans.

An official cause has yet to be determined, but officials say workers were cleaning the platform of the rig and believe the chemicals may have ignited the initial flame prior to the explosion.

Officials said oil from the rig, operated by CLOVELLY Oil, may be leaking into Lake Pontchartrain.

The Coast Guard is currently using helicopters and rescue boats in an effort to locate the missing worker.
