Air Force officials identify the pilot killed in a crash near the Texas-Mexico border.

Authorities confirmed the death of 32-year-old Captain Paul J. Barbour after the T-38 Talon aircraft he was aboard crashed near Laughlin Air Force Base on Monday.

The other pilot, Captain Joshua Hammervold, was released from a local medical center after being treated for his injuries.

“The Air Force is a close-knit family, and the loss of one of our own affects all of us,” said Col. Charlie Velino, Commander of the 47th Flying Training Wing. “I guarantee you we are doing everything we can to investigate what happened and ways to prevent future incidents.”

The base has suspended all flights through Thanksgiving weekend as officials investigate the exact cause of the crash.
