A massive power outage brings air travel to a standstill at Atlanta’s international airport.

Thousands of passengers are being evacuated from terminals at the world’s busiest airport, as efforts to turn the power back on continue.

A statement from Georgia Power says a fire may have caused extensive damage to an underground power facility at the airport and they’re hoping to have the power restored by midnight.

In response to the outage, the FAA issued a ground stop for flights heading into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Departures from the airport have been cancelled and WiFi and cell service have also been affected.

The outage comes as millions of people are traveling home and abroad for the Christmas holiday.
