UN Ambassador Nikki Haley speaks out against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro for targeting free speech.

Haley spoke out against the leader Friday, saying quote “Maduro’s reign of violence, repression, corruption and bankruptcy continues to punish the Venezuelan people.”

The statement reflect continuing pressure on Maduro’s regime by the Trump Administration, after sanctions against Venezuela were passed in November.

Haley’s statement comes in response to recent claims Maduro made against two Catholic bishops critical of his regime.

Maduro accused the men of calling for violence and civil war after they spoke out on corruption and food shortages.

The bishops deny making these comments, but Maduro plans to charge them with a hate crime law.
