The October 1st massacre of country music fans in Las Vegas, Nevada is still perplexing to investigators and Americans alike, and not everyone is satisfied with the answers they’ve received so far.

On that fateful night, a multimillionaire gambler and retired real estate investor named Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd numbering in the thousands, killing 58 concert goers and injuring well over 500 more in the ensuing panic.  Paddock’s attack was based on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, in a suite that the killer was familiar with from other visits to Las Vegas.

When police finally revealed the extent of the damage that Paddock was looking to do, Americans were astounded.  Within his posh hotel room was an arsenal unlike anything seen in modern mass shootings:  Nearly two dozen high powered firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition that Paddock didn’t even get around to.

No motive for the shooting has been provided by authorities – a non-development that has Americans rightly upset with the progress of the investigation.  Furthermore, the fact that Mandalay Bay has yet to release any video footage of Paddock even stepping foot in their highly secure fortress of a gambling establishment has enraged those who have been following the case.

The tumultuous relationship between American answer seekers and Mandalay Bay came to a head over the weekend, as protesters joined together at the Las Vegas Strip mainstay to demand answers and accountability.

“‘Show us the tapes.’

“That was the message behind a protest on Sunday outside of Mandalay Bay.

“Demonstrators said they want answers about the 1 October shooting that claimed 58 lives. They demanded that the hotel and Las Vegas police release surveillance footage of the night of the massacre.

“‘We want to know the truth. We’re tired of the lies, we’re tired of the murders, it’s got to stop,’ one protester told 13 Action News. ‘They should release the video.’”

Paddock’s actions have piqued the interest of internet conspiracy theorists, certainly, but the mystery surrounding the Las Vegas massacre has a much broader audience than just that.

Given the sheer, shocking nature of what occurred back on October 1st, there is little reason to believe that the current narrative is the end-all, be-all of Paddock’s rage.  In order to prevent something like this from ever occurring again, authorities will need to begin a dissemination of information post-haste.

Just last week authorities revealed that there was a new “person of interest” in the case, and that there is a distinct possibility that Paddock was working as an illegal arms dealer.  Both of these revelations are astounding, given that theories of Paddock’s work in the black market have persisted from the moment that the news broke back in October.
