If there is one thing that we as a nation must never allow to be stymied, stifled, or stunted, it is our inalienable, God-given right to free speech.

The First Amendment is a glorious and profound tool that Americans all too often take for granted.  We often forget, due to our own blessedness, that there are still places all over this little blue dot in the sky where human beings are not allowed to criticize those who control the means of production, the markets, or the government.  In doing so, these men and women, who are otherwise just like you and I, often sentence themselves to death or worse in totalitarian and wholly unfree regimes around the planet.

North Korea is a nearly perfect example of this brutality.

In the hermit kingdom, those who dare to speak out against the Kim Dynasty, (whose abuses are innumerable and unholy), soon find themselves and their families locked away in Nazi-style concentration camps where little regard for the outcome of your stay exists.  Guards, who are wholly inhuman at this point, would rather you die than they themselves be inconvenienced by your actions.  Often times, when you are punished by beatings, whippings, or death, so are the family members with whom you are incarcerated.

This horrifying reality is only allowed to flourish in places such as North Korea thanks to the lack of free speech, and the legal ramifications imposed for speaking your mind.

In West Virginia, which is still a part of these United States at last look, a young lady has felt the pain of those who are persecuted for their opinions as she was forcibly removed from the State House after politely and articulately calling into question the role that her representatives  were playing in this crony capitalism.

“Lissa Lucas traveled the 100 miles from her home in Cairo, West Virginia to the state capitol in Charleston Friday to testify against an oil and gas industry sponsored bill (HB 4268) that would allow companies to drill on minority mineral owners’ land without their consent.

“Lucas began to testify to the House Judiciary Committee, but a few minutes in, her microphone was turned off.

“And Lucas was dragged out of the room.

“Lucas is running for the House of Delegates from Ritchie County, which has been overrun by the fracking industry.”

Why was this budding political mind hauled off of the House floor?

“’As I tried to give my remarks at the public hearing this morning on HB 4268 in defense of our constitutional property rights, I got dragged out of House chambers,’ Lucas said. ‘Why? Because I was listing out who has been donating to Delegates on the Judiciary Committee.’”

That’s right:  Lucas was simply pointing out the absurdity of the political ruling class’ all-too-obvious conflicts of interest.

During her speech, Lucas went for the jugular before being hauled off by the Deep State gestapo.

“’I have to keep this short, because the public only gets a minute and 45 seconds while lobbyists can throw a gala at the Marriott with whiskey and wine and talk for hours to the delegates,’ Lucas said.

“(Lucas was referring to the Whiskey, Wine and Policy Winter Legislative Reception at the Charleston Marriott Hotel on February 7 sponsored by the Shale Energy Alliance.)

“Lucas then began to read the oil and gas donations to the members of the House Judiciary Committee, including the chairman, John Shott (R-Mercer).

“’John Shott. First Energy $2,000. Appalachian Power $2,000. Steptoe & Johnson—that’s a gas and oil law firm—$2,000. Consol Energy $1,000. EQT $1,000. And I could go on.’”

That’s when the dinosaur-like establishment shills of the West Virginia State house had her taken away from the podium.

Surely we haven’t heard the last from the brave and powerful Lissa Lucas.  And thank God for that.
