If we’re being honest, Utah has a bit of a reputation for the comfortable, albeit a bit mundane existence of some of its residents.

Sure, the strict alcohol laws certainly play a part that in that perception, and the highfaluting one-percenters of Park City’s diamond-encrusted ski slopes aren’t helping the cause either.  In other words – there are very few incidents in Utah that have us shaking our heads in the otherwise salacious and tawdry media.

Utah is just a nice place, where there aren’t a whole lot of unpleasant things regularly occurring.

Maybe that’s why a prank at a local Utah high school has gotten so much attention this week.

“Police have enlisted the help of the FBI after an ISIS flag was found in place of an American flag on a Hurricane High School flagpole Thursday morning.

“Following hours of investigation, including analysis by federal agents, Police have determined the flag swap was not executed by the infamous terrorist group.

“’… based on information we received from the FBI we do not believe this act was perpetrated by someone linked to the Islamic State,’ Hurricane police said in a news release.

“However, police are still searching for the vandal, or vandals, who swapped the flags and spray-painted ‘ISIS is comi’ on a wall of the school.”

This deplorable “prank”, if that’s what you’d call it, is a mockery of the innumerable lives lost in the still raging war on terror.

And, while officials don’t believe that there is any threat emanating from this vulgar display of hatred, Hurricane High School does employ a “resource” officer that is presumably armed for the safety of the students.

ISIS, although not finding regular rotation in our daily news cycles, is still an immediate and terrifying threat to American, Europe, and the world at large.
