California Governor Jerry Brown ordered flags at the capitol be flown at half-staff Sunday in honor of a fallen Pomona police officer.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the man charged with allegedly shooting two California police officers — killing one of them — in Pomona, California is now behind bars.

The suspect — identified as 39-year-old Isaias De Jesus Valencia — was apprehended Saturday after a nearly 15 hour stand-off.

Reports say police were responding to calls about a reckless driver who refused to pull over and led officers on a chase.

He later crashed his car and continued to run away.

“The suspect ran into an apartment complex, where officers gave chase as he barricaded himself in a bedroom,” said Captain Christopher Bergner. “Officers attempted to contact him, and he began firing through the door, striking two officers.”

Officer Greggory Casillas was pronounced dead at Pomona Valley Medical Center.

The second officer was reportedly shot in the face helping Casillas, and he is currently in stable condition.

Pomoana police now seek justice for their brothers in blue as they mourn the loss of one of their own.

“Greg intentionally chose to take different positions within the police department to better prepare himself to achieve his goal of becoming a Pomana police officer,” stated Mike Oliviero, Pomana Police Department Chief. “Greg was a hero, a man to be looked up to…he left his family at home to protect yours.”

Casillas, who was just about to complete field training, leaves behind parents, brothers, a wife, and two young children.

At least 21 police officers across the U.S. have lost their lives in the line of duty since January.
