The might and magnificence of the United States military has long been quite the deterrent for would-be saber rattlers around the globe.

With weaponry lightyears ahead of any other civilized nation’s arsenal, and a fighting force of disciplined soldiers unlike anything the world has ever seen, barring a sucker punch nuclear shot from a rogue Russia, there are likely no nations that could even make us a break a sweat on the battlefield.

One man, however, has displayed a fondness for poking the proverbial bear by constantly threatening the atomic annihilation of the United States, and utilizing a 17th century insult to address President Donald J. Trump.  That man is none other than the dainty despot of the DPRK, Kim Jong Un.

Kim, like his predecessors, completely blame the United States for the current state of the tiny Asian nation, after the U.S. backed South Korean during the Korean War; a conflict that is still technically active, but under a long standing armistice as of 2018.  Kim’s hatred of America has translated into a number of heinous threats against the U.S., including an ominous warning that the global superpower could be reduced to “ash and darkness” by North Korea’s purported nuclear arsenal.

Kim’s trash talking of President Donald Trump and the U.S. military did not go unnoticed, however, and the Commander in Chief has overseen a massive deployment of assets to effective theater of a hypothetical war with North Korea.  These “assets” include several battleships, aircraft carriers, strategic personnel, and a number of advanced fighter jets fresh off the assembly line.

Now, however, Trump seems ready to end this silly standoff, and has placed the crown jewel of the American air armada within striking distance to Pyongyang.

“Three B-2 Spirit strategic stealth bombers along with approximately 200 Airmen belonging to the 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman Air Force Base, were deployed to Andersen Air Force Base, in support of U.S. Pacific Command’s (PACOM) Bomber Assurance and Deterrence mission.

“The stealth bombers, are due to be involved in what the U.S. Pacific Command defined a ‘short-term deployment’ during which they will conduct ‘local and regional training sorties, and will integrate capabilities with key regional partners, ensuring bomber crews maintain a high state of readiness and crew proficiency.’

“Interestingly, the B-2s have joined the ‘several’ B-1B Lancers deployed to Guam to support the U.S. Pacific Command’s (USPACOM) Continuous Bomber Presence mission. The Bones (using the nickname popular among their aircrews) have been involved in several shows of force around the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, but they can’t carry any kind of nuclear weapon. So, the B-2 deployment in the region brings a nuclear bomber capability closer to North Korea.”

While the last week has been relatively quiet on the North Korea front, there are tense talks beginning between the despotic regime and their neighbors to the south, who will be hosting the Olympics in the coming months.

Whether this move was made for any premeditated purpose has yet to be seen.  It would be a safe assumption, however, to believe that Kim Jong Un has no problem seeing the writing on the wall of this massive maneuver.
