Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the U.S. is giving Saudi Arabia a few more days to complete its investigation into the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi.

He made the announcement Thursday, following his meeting with President Trump. Pompeo said Saudi Arabia has decided to extend its probe in order to ensure the investigation is thorough and complete.

The secretary of state claimed Saudi’s leaders told him their investigators are taking this case very seriously and they will do everything they can to be as transparent as possible.

Pompeo also expressed the importance Saudi Arabia’s relationship with the U.S.

“I think it’s important for us all to remember too, we have a long — since 1932 — a long strategic relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that continues to be an important counter terrorist partner, they have custody of the two holy sites, they are an important strategic alliance of the United States and we need to be mindful of that as well,” he stated.

Secretary Pompeo also said the U.S. will determine an appropriate response to Saudi Arabia as the facts unfold.
