Russian President Vladimir Putin faces a midnight deadline to explain a nerve agent attack on a former spy living in the U.K.
U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May blamed the Russian government for the attack.
May’s cabinet will meet Tuesday to discuss possible retaliation as they await answers from the Kremlin.
Russia’s foreign ministry called May’s statement a “circus act.”
However, former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the poison clearly came from Russia. He went on to call it an “egregious” act.
Meanwhile, President Trump will speak with British Prime Minister Theresa May Tuesday to discuss the incident..
Before departing to California Tuesday morning, the president said he was looking forward to speaking with May to address whether Russia’s government was involved in the death of Sergei Skripal.
May has accused Moscow of being behind the attack after traces of a chemical nerve agent– linked to the Russian government— were found during an autopsy.
President Trump says he will back the U.K.’s investigative findings.
This comes as the E.U. also announced it will support Britain in its ongoing investigation.
