Colorado police found nearly 30 children hidden in a daycare owner’s basement. On Friday, authorities in Colorado Springs said they found the children — all under the age of three — after they were asked to conduct a welfare check on the facility earlier in the week.
DHS asked #CSPD to assist in conducting a welfare check at the Play Mountain Place, a local daycare, after receiving complaints that the facility was housing more children in their care than their licensed allowed.

Reports alleged the Play Mountain Place daycare was allowing more children in than what its permit allowed for. Upon arriving at the daycare, police were initially unable to find any children. While trying to contact the owner, officers said they could hear children making noises inside the residence.
They later found a false wall leading to the home’s basement, where they discovered two adults and 26 children.
“It’s so hard to trust your children with people and we felt like we could really trust them,” stated one parent. “I’m completely betrayed — every parent I’ve talked to, we all feel completely betrayed.”
Police have stated that all of children in the facility are safe and accounted for. No one has been charged in the case, but officials said the daycare’s owner and three employees are being investigated.
“The Colorado Springs Police Department was contacted to conduct a welfare check of the children in care,” read the CSPD press release. “Based on initial findings, the Department is immediately suspending the (daycare) license — this is an ongoing investigation.”
