The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, otherwise known as AIPAC, recently took aim at Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) for his comments regarding the non-profit organization.

In an official statement Sunday, AIPAC called Sanders’ comments “outrageous.” The group added that he’s insulting his own colleagues as well as the millions of Americans who stand with Israel.

This comes after Sanders’ questioned the integrity of AIPAC and their platform. He expressed his concern via Twitter, where the self-proclaimed Democrat socialist suggested the organization provides a platform for those who “express bigotry and oppose basic Palestinian rights.”

If elected president, Sanders vowed to support the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians despite previous calls to cut aid to Israel as “leverage.”

“I would use the leverage, $3.8 billion is a lot of money, and we cannot give it carte blanche to the Israeli government or to any government at all,” he stated. “We have the right to demand respect for human rights and democracy.”

As a result, the presidential hopeful said he will not be attending the event. Meanwhile, the conference has seen speakers from both sides of the aisle, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Vice President Mike Pence and even Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Schumer recently defended the Israelis previous response to tensions overseas.

“Israel has every right to respond just as any other nation, including our own would,” he stated. “Some voices will condemn Israel for responding, but no government can allow its civilians to be subject to rocket attack time and time again.”

The AIPAC 2020 conference is slated to begin next week.
