A manhunt is underway as at-least three people are dead and a dozen more injured after shots ring out at a Christmas market in France.

French police said they exchanged gunfire with the suspect in the city of Strasbourg, who has since been identified as a 29-year-old male who remains at large.

Six of those injured remain in critical condition, and authorities reportedly expect the death toll to rise overnight.

France’s Interior Minister reported anti-terror prosecutors are being sent to the scene to investigate the situation.

In the meantime, police are warning the community that the situation is ongoing and urge residents to stay inside.
