Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Trump talk about trade and the ongoing border closure. In a press conference Monday, Trudeau said during the discussion he emphasized that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has disrupted manufacturing processes and supply chains.
The Canadian leader also stated his opposition to the president about potential new U.S. tariffs on aluminum. Trudeau said discussions regarding the border closure, which is set to expire next week are ongoing.
“We’ve pledged to continue to monitor closely the situation that is constantly evolving,” he stated. “We will be discussing with our American partners what the next steps should be, and I think this is a situation that is evolving rapidly and, therefore, we need to keep responding to the situation on the ground.”
This morning, I spoke on the phone with @POTUS Trump. We focused on the new NAFTA, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ongoing situation in Hong Kong. We also discussed the Black Lives Matter movement and the need to end systemic racism. More on our call: https://t.co/hjOtnjNbvm pic.twitter.com/3ddXndf6wr
