Homeland Security is drawing attention to the new migrant caravan heading to the southern border. According to reports Tuesday, the group includes around 2,000 migrants made up of mostly women and children.
Many of the migrants have said Mexico’s president has turned a blind eye to their struggle, and are accusing him of perpetuating the conditions which prompted them to head north. This comes despite his promise to do more to combat mass migrations, including offering financial incentives to stay.

Members of the caravan have called on President Trump to soften his immigration stance, and allow them into the U.S.
“We don’t have another option, but to migrate and if President Trump is not happy, well then, we don’t have another option… in our countries we don’t have any support. We see that on this side it’s better, so everyone heads this way. We think that Trump’s heart will have to soften, because we have needs in our countries.” — Oscar Romero, Honduran migrant
In the meantime, officials in Southern Mexico reportedly declared an emergency in an effort to block the group from advancing any further. They have called the caravan a safety threat.
