President Trump is calling for unity on the heels of the midterm elections. During a briefing at the White House Wednesday, the president called on both parties to put partisanship aside and work together on issues that matter to voters. This includes health care, immigration and tax cuts.
He touted Tuesday’s election results., saying the Republican Party defied history by expanding majority in the Senate during an off-year election and exceeded expectations in the House.
President Trump argued the GOP’s expansion in the Senate clearly shows voters were upset by the Democrats’ handling of the confirmation process for now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
The president urged Democrats to not waste tax payer dollars by opening up investigations, but said if they do then the Senate will fight back.
“But they can play that game. But we can play it better because we have a thing called the United States Senate. And a lot of very questionable things were done, between leaks of classified information and many other elements that should not have taken place. And all you’re going to do is end up in back and forth and back and forth. And two years is going to go up and we won’t have done a thing.” — President Donald Trump
In a surprise move, he praised Nancy Pelosi by saying she deserves credit for leading her party to victory in the House. He also said he supports her bid for speakership.
