President Trump says more immigrants are trying to get into the U.S. because of the nation’s economic success.
He made those remarks outside of the White House Saturday saying the U.S. is doing well, compared to the rest of the world, especially America’s neighbors to the South.
However, the president said there are millions of people who have already applied to come to U.S. legally and have waited a long time, and those immigrants must be given preference.
President Trump re-affirmed his commitment to decreasing illegal immigration, and ending the practice of “catch and release.”
“…We have a great military force on the southern border. We’re not letting people into our country illegally and we’re not doing a release we’ll do a catch. But we’re not doing releases. So if they think they’re going to be released into our country like in the old days like for years and years, they catch and release. We’re not releasing, they don’t get released.” – President Trump
The president went on to say, the military forces deployed to the border will be stationed there, as long as necessary.
