San Francisco and neighboring Marin counties have begun easing up on mask mandates.

As of Friday, places like offices, gyms, college classrooms and churches will not require masks as long as people are fully vaccinated. However, groups will still be limited to less than 100 people.

“People in these settings may remove their masks if the employer or host of the gathering can control access to the setting and verify 100 percent full vaccination of everyone in the setting,” San Francisco’s website stated.

However, masks are still required in retail stores, restaurants, K-12 schools and common areas of buildings like elevators and restrooms. Participating businesses are responsible for vaccine verification and are able to keep the mandate in place if they choose to do so.

The mayor of San Francisco, London Breed (D), agreed this was an important step forward for the city. “Our economy is bouncing back, the city feels like it is coming alive again, and this is yet another milestone in our recovery,” she noted.
