Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is kicking off his five nation tour of Europe. Pompeo stopped in Hungary’s capital Monday, where he visited the U.S. embassy as well as a statue of the late President Ronald Reagan in Budapest.

The purpose of his trip is to address the growing influence of Russia and China in Central Europe.

The secretary said the U.S. might be forced to scale back certain operations in Europe if countries continue to do business with Chinese telecom giant Huawei.

“What’s imperative is that we share with them the things we know about the risks that Huawei’s presence in their networks presents actual risks to their own people, to the loss of privacy protections for their own people, the risk that China will use this data in a way that is not in the best interest of Hungary,” stated Pompeo. “We have an obligation to share that information with them, and we will do so.”

The U.S. Secretary of State went on to say he also wants to address concerns over human rights, civil liberty, and law while strengthening ties with European countries.
