Two school administrators have been reportedly shot at East High School in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday.

Denver Police Department Chief Ron Thomas said in a press conference that the shooting had occurred during a safety routine check that was being executed at an office area.

“They were undergoing a search, and during that search, obviously a weapon, a handgun was retrieved and several shots were fired,” Thomas said. “He was secluded with just these school administrators during the safety protocol.”

The alleged shooter, a student, fled the school soon after firing at the two school staff, both of which were male.

The injured victims were transported to a local hospital for care as one of them was reportedly in serious but stable condition, and the other was in surgery in critical condition.

Authorities have disclosed that while they have not yet publicly named the student shooter, they do possess the knowledge of his identity. A search is underway to find the shooter.

“Certainly, it is a concern that we have an individual who is not in our custody at this time, who is armed with a weapon,” Thomas said. “We don’t have any sense of where he is.”

The Denver Public School District (DPS) said in a tweet that the school was placed on lockdown due to police activity.

According to sources, DPS said East HS will remain closed for the rest of the week and that once classes resume, two armed officers will be present at the school for the remainder of the school year.
