The GOP may tap democratic senator Joe Manchin to lead the Energy Department, which could be a strategic move to boost its stalled health care legislation.
That’s according to Republican officials familiar with early stages of the discussion.
If the West Virginia senator accepts, it would allow the state’s GOP governor to appoint his replacement.
That would possibly put the party a vote closer to repealing Obamacare.
Currently Ricky Perry serves as Energy Secretary, but it’s rumored he could take over General John Kelly’s old job at the Department of Homeland Security.
A spokesperson for Manchin did not say whether he would accept the job.
