The liberal left has used an inordinate amount of arguments to disparage President Trump, but one high ranking military official is setting the record straight on one particular talking point.
From the very moment that Donald Trump announced his candidacy, right through his inauguration, the left has been attempting to frighten America with the weight of the job of Commander in Chief. Their insinuation is that Trump, a bombastic businessman, is not up for the task, especially when it comes to the life or death decisions of the military.
Of course, it only takes rudimentary logic to understand that exalting the position of President while simultaneously disparaging the man sitting sitting at the desk in the Oval Office is an oxymoronic stunt aimed at pleasing the radical leftists on whom the democrats rely.
Nevertheless, one of the main, bizarre fear-mongering points that the left has provided is that Donald Trump has command of our nation’s nuclear arsenal. If you ask a bleeding heart liberal about this particular reality, they will regale you with tales of certain atomic winter just over the horizon, based on their faulty assumption that Trump cannot be trusted with the power to launch our nukes.
Now, one military leader is stepping in the conversation to put an end to that nonsense.
“The top U.S. nuclear commander said on Saturday that he would resist President Donald Trump if he ordered an ‘illegal’ launch of nuclear weapons.
“Air Force General John Hyten, commander of the U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM), told an audience at the Halifax International Security Forum in Nova Scotia, Canada that he had given a lot of thought to what he would say if he received such an order.
“’I think some people think we’re stupid,’ Hyten said in response to a question about such a scenario. ‘We’re not stupid people. We think about these things a lot. When you have this responsibility, how do you not think about it?’
“As head of STRATCOM ‘I provide advice to the president, he will tell me what to do,’ he said in his remarks, retransmitted in a video posted on the forum’s Facebook page.
“’And if it’s illegal, guess what’s going to happen? I‘m going to say, “Mr. President, that’s illegal.” And guess what he’s going to do? He’s going to say, “What would be legal?” And we’ll come up with options, of a mix of capabilities to respond to whatever the situation is, and that’s the way it works. It’s not that complicated.’”
Thus destroying the liberal argument that Trump is some sort of bratty child who is willing to forego reason in order to watch a mushroom cloud envelop the globe.
When the President is an enemy, as is the case with the radical left of 2017, there is no consideration that the Commander in Chief would use common sense or reasoning to determine his every move. Furthermore, as President, Trump has painstakingly constructed an administration where the best men or women for the job are in their rightful place. This has taken some doing, with tumultuous turnover highlighting many weeks’ worth of headlines, but in the end we can believe that our President is prepared to rely on the expertise of his team in times of trouble.
The left, however, believes that the President has his finger on the button at all times.
