The parents of a child battling leukemia are suing the state of Illinois to allow their daughter the ability to use medical marijuana at school.
Court documents show a school district located in a suburb of Chicago is also named in the recent suit after it prohibited the 11-year-old from bringing medical cannabis patches and oil drops on campus.
Doctors say the treatments have helped control the student’s seizures, which are a result of chemotherapy.
Current state law prevents individuals from possessing medical marijuana on school grounds and buses.
The superintendent of the district said they will comply with the court’s final ruling.
