The childish chess game being played by the liberal left and their media overlords reminds us more of a 5th grade social strategy than a functioning outlet for the will of the people.
In this game, professional trolls in the mainstream bait and entice American conservatives into a reaction, and then they report on that reaction with no context of the push it took to get there. It’s “trolling” on a highly sophisticated, grand scale, and it works due to the overwhelming liberal majority in this particular age of media.
In the case of Jack Phillips, we find the blatant and absurd issue with this sort of political warfare.
Phillips is the baker famous for “refusing” to bake a wedding cake for gay couple. What you weren’t told about Phillips, however, is that his bakery doesn’t do custom wedding cakes, ever. Period. He turned away that couple just as he would have turned away a straight couple who were asking for customization. This policy had been in place for years before the incident that made Phillips unfortunately famous.
Now, in a perfect example of the perception game being played by the liberal media, Phillips has been targeted again, this time after refusing to bake yet another custom cake.
On Tuesday, according to The Daily Caller, Christian baker Jack Phillips — who was recently handed a victory at the Supreme Court after the Colorado Civil Rights Commission discriminated against him on the basis of religion by fining him for not baking a same-sex wedding cake — filed a new lawsuit against the Civil Rights Commission. Why? Because the Civil Rights Commission has apparently issued a preliminary ruling penalizing him for not baking a gender transition celebration cake.
Worse still, it seems as though this “bobbing for hatred” has been occurring nonstop since the time that Phillips first refused the original wedding cake request.
On the same day the high court agreed to review the Masterpiece case, an attorney named Autumn Scardina called Phillips’ shop and asked him to create a cake celebrating a sex transition. The caller asked that the cake include a blue exterior and a pink interior, a reflection of Scardina’s transgender identity. Phillips declined to create the cake, given his religious conviction that sex is immutable, while offering to sell the caller other pre-made baked goods. In the months that followed, the bakery received requests for cakes featuring marijuana use, sexually explicit messages, and Satanic symbols. One solicitation submitted by email asked the cake shop to create a three-tiered white cake depicting Satan licking a functional 9 inch dildo. Phillips believes Scardina made all these requests.
Scardina filed a complaint with the civil rights commission, alleging discrimination on the basis of gender identity. The matter was held in abeyance while the Supreme Court adjudicated the Masterpiece case.
This is the equivalent of going to a Ford dealership and suing them because you can’t find a new Chevy Camaro on the lot.
