The Navy dismisses two top military officers of the U.S.S. John McCain following a deadly collision that occurred two months ago.

Commanding Officer Alfredo Sanchez and Executive Officer Jessie Sanchez were discharged due to a loss of confidence by the new 7th Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Phil Sawyer.

The destroyer collided with a merchant vessel back in August, which resulted in the death of 10 sailors while five others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

In a statement, the Navy said the commanding officer showed poor judgment and the executive officer demonstrated poor leadership of the vessel’s training program.
