Two people are dead and eight others are hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting on the Brown University campus in Rhode Island on Saturday night, the university has said.
The university said potentially multiple shooters are still at large, as of their last update at 6:33 p.m.
“Law enforcement is active in the area,” the university’s statement reads.
“We know there is a lot of fear and concern and uncertainty in the community right now. Law enforcement is actively working to identify the deceased victims, and the hospital personnel also are working to identify those transported to the hospital.”
“The situation is ongoing, and all members of the community should continue to shelter in place,” Brown University said.
The university said it has confirmed multiple shooting victims have been evacuated to area hospitals, but their conditions are unknown.
In a pair of posts on his Truth Social platform on Saturday evening, President Donald Trump indicated he is actively monitoring the developments in the shooting situation.
In his second post, Trump issued a correction to the claim that the suspect had been taken into custody.
