The disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has transitioned from a local missing person search into a high-stakes federal investigation, gripping the nation as it enters a critical fourth day.

The 84-year-old mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was last seen at her home in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills at around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday. What began as a welfare check when she failed to appear for church the next morning has since uncovered a “very concerning” scene, with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and the FBI now investigating a likely nighttime abduction.

In a poignant video released on Wednesday evening, a visibly shaken Savannah, joined by her siblings, issued a direct and desperate appeal for the safe return of their 84-year-old mother.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Savannah thanked her fans and other supporters for their ongoing prayers, saying, “We are pleading with you: please, bring her home,” further emphasizing the immediate need for undeniable proof of life before engaging in further negotiations.

“We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her,” she continued, adding that the family is prepared to discuss whatever terms are necessary once her safety is confirmed.

Describing their mother as their “beacon” and a woman of “goodness and light,” Savannah underscored the family’s agony, noting that her grandchildren are waiting to “cover her with kisses.”

This emotional message follows days of national concern and exemplifies the family’s willingness to cooperate fully with any demands to secure the return of the special woman they described as the “pillar” of their lives.

Following the video’s release, President Donald Trump also expressed his support and announced the deployment of additional FBI agents to the area.

“I spoke with Savannah Guthrie, and let her know that I am directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY. We are deploying all resources to get her mother home safely. The prayers of our Nation are with her and her family. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT NANCY!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Meanwhile, authorities and family members are operating under extreme urgency due to Nancy’s health. While described as “sharp as a tack” and of sound mind, the 84-year-old has limited mobility and requires daily life-saving medication for heart-related issues.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, now supported by the FBI and Border Patrol, is utilizing a massive array of resources:

  • Forensics: DNA samples and fingerprints collected from the home are currently being analyzed. Sources indicate a “small amount of blood” was found at the scene, though its origin remains unconfirmed.
  • Digital Canvas: Detectives are reviewing Ring footage from neighboring homes and analyzing data from cell towers and license plate readers.
  • Ransom Reports: Investigators are vetting purported ransom notes received by media outlets, including TMZ, which demand payment in cryptocurrency. While not yet authenticated, the Sheriff’s Department is treating the notes as credible leads.

A $25,000 reward has been offered by a church in Albany, New York, reflecting the national outpouring of prayer and support for the Guthrie family.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Nancy’s whereabouts, or any suspicious activity in the Catalina Foothills on the night of January 31st, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
