In what may be a significant breakthrough in the abduction of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents have discovered a single black glove along a roadside near her home.

On Wednesday, during an extensive search along roadways in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, investigators recovered the item approximately 1.5 miles from Guthrie’s residence. Authorities noted that the glove closely resembles those worn by the suspect captured in surveillance footage.

Photos published by the New York Post show the FBI’s Evidence Response Team retrieving what appears to be a single insulated glove from a dirt path.

Although the FBI has not publicly detailed the specific “scanning” or forensic techniques currently being used, investigators have taken several steps that indicate a high-level forensic analysis is underway.

  • Evidence collection: On Wednesday, agents carefully removed the glove from a small roadside shrub and placed it into an evidence bag to preserve its condition.
  • Comparative analysis: Authorities will be comparing the physical glove to the surveillance footage released on Tuesday. They have noted that it closely resembles the dark, insulated gloves worn by the masked individual seen tampering with Guthrie’s doorbell camera.
  • Forensic objectives: As with typical FBI evidence processing, the item is likely being checked for DNA, hair, or fiber samples. Retired FBI experts have noted that investigators will also look for manufacturing marks to trace where the item was purchased.

This comes a day after the FBI released surveillance videos and photos of a potential suspect believed to be connected to the abduction. The individual is seen wearing a heavy jacket, mask, and gloves, carrying a backpack and/or tools.
