TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Book 2 Voice Of Jesus copy 2” by Michael Canfield:
MICHAEL: I’m getting the picture Lord, I’m feeling some relief. Scripture also says look inward to our thoughts and intentions. JESUS: Yes. Truth reveals. Judgment aligns. MICHAEL (Scripture): “The word of God is living and active… discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) MICHAEL: Then where does free will fit? JESUS: Free will is the space where love must be chosen. Evil does not remove it. It competes for your attention. MICHAEL: By worldly gain such as profit… power… physical, mental and spiritual harm? JESUS: Yes. When love is removed from the calculation, utility replaces dignity. Profit
REFLECTION
What a profound truth Jesus reveals here: free will is not just our ability to choose—it’s the sacred space where love must be chosen. Every day, we stand in this space countless times. When a coworker frustrates us, when we’re tempted to cut corners for personal gain, when we scroll past someone’s pain because we’re too busy—these are the moments where evil doesn’t force our hand, but simply competes for our attention. The world whispers that profit matters more than people, that power is worth sacrificing principle, that our comfort supersedes someone else’s dignity.
The warning is stark and uncomfortably relevant: “When love is removed from the calculation, utility replaces dignity.” How often do we reduce people to their usefulness? The employee becomes a productivity metric. The family member becomes an inconvenience. The stranger becomes invisible. We live in a culture that constantly asks “What’s in it for me?” rather than “How can I love?” But Jesus reminds us through this dialogue that God’s living word actively discerns our thoughts and intentions—not to condemn us, but to reveal truth and align our judgment with His heart of love.
The relief Michael feels isn’t from escaping scrutiny—it’s from understanding that God’s truth reveals and His judgment aligns. This is the grace in the mirror of Scripture. When we look inward honestly, we see where we’ve chosen utility over dignity, profit over people, convenience over compassion. And in that seeing, we’re invited to choose again. Right now. In this present moment. Free will remains—and love is still waiting to be chosen.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
Today, I’m invited to examine where I’m treating people as utilities rather than dignities. In every interaction, every decision, every thought—am I choosing love, or am I letting the world’s values compete for my attention and win?
