TODAY’S PASSAGE

From “Book 2 Voice Of Jesus copy 2” by Michael Canfield:

what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” (Matthew 6:25) MICHAEL: So, fear isn’t always imagining something new. JESUS: No. It is often rehearsing something old and calling it wisdom. MICHAEL: Yet anxiety feels productive — as if worrying is a form of responsibility. JESUS: That is the illusion of control. MICHAEL (Scripture): “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?” (Matthew 6:27) MICHAEL: When I exert control over

REFLECTION

How many times have we mistaken worry for wisdom? We replay past hurts, rehearse old fears, and convince ourselves that this mental loop is somehow keeping us safe or prepared. Jesus cuts through this deception with stunning clarity: anxiety is not responsibility—it’s the illusion of control. We wear our worries like armor, believing that if we just think hard enough about our problems, we can somehow prevent disaster. But the truth is, no amount of fretting has ever added a single moment to our lives or solved a single real problem.

There’s something deeply human about wanting to control our circumstances. We worry about our finances, our health, our relationships, our future—as if the weight of our concern could somehow bend reality to our will. But Jesus invites us into a different way of living. He doesn’t dismiss our needs for food, clothing, or security. Instead, He asks us to recognize that life is so much more than these things. When we spend our days consumed by anxiety, we miss the abundant life He’s offering us right now, in this present moment.

The dialogue between Michael and Jesus in this passage reveals something transformative: our anxiety often masquerades as virtue. We think we’re being responsible adults by worrying, but we’re actually robbing ourselves of peace and trust. Real wisdom isn’t found in rehearsing our fears—it’s found in releasing them to the One who holds our lives in His hands. When we let go of the illusion that we’re in control, we discover the freedom that comes from trusting in Love itself.

THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…

Today, I’m invited to examine which old fears I’ve been rehearsing and calling wisdom. Where am I clinging to the illusion of control instead of resting in trust? What would it look like to release just one worry today and choose faith instead?
