TODAY’S PASSAGE

From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:

“We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance”

REFLECTION

At first glance, the idea of rejoicing in our sufferings seems almost impossible. When we’re in the midst of pain—whether it’s loss, disappointment, illness, or heartbreak—joy feels like the last thing we can muster. Yet this powerful passage invites us into a deeper truth: our struggles aren’t meaningless. They’re actually forging something precious within us. Every difficult moment, every tear shed, every night we’ve wondered if we could go on—these aren’t wasted experiences. They’re building our capacity to endure, to keep going, to become people of remarkable resilience and depth.

Think about the challenges you’ve already overcome in your life. The job loss that led to a better opportunity. The relationship that ended and made room for healthier love. The diagnosis that taught you what truly matters. Looking back, can you see how those painful seasons developed something in you that comfort never could? That’s endurance—not just the ability to survive, but the strength to keep moving forward with faith, hope, and an open heart. It’s the spiritual muscle that only gets built through resistance.

This doesn’t mean we should seek out suffering or pretend it doesn’t hurt. Jesus himself wept. He felt anguish. He understands our pain intimately. But He also sees what we often cannot: that on the other side of our struggles, we emerge transformed. We become people who can sit with others in their pain because we’ve been there. We develop compassion, wisdom, and an unshakeable faith that can weather any storm. That’s why we can rejoice—not because suffering feels good, but because we trust the process of becoming who we’re meant to be.

THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…

What struggle are you facing right now that feels unbearable? Can you trust, even just a little, that this season is building endurance in you—preparing you for greater purpose, deeper love, and stronger faith than you’ve ever known?
