TODAY’S PASSAGE

From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:

No. Grace is strength that does not need to dominate. Mercy that does not keep score.

REFLECTION

We live in a world that constantly tells us strength means being the loudest voice in the room, winning every argument, or proving we’re right. But this passage turns that understanding completely upside down. True strength—the kind that comes from grace—doesn’t need to overpower anyone. It doesn’t demand submission or force compliance. Instead, it stands firm in love, secure enough in itself that it has nothing to prove. When we operate from this place of grace, we discover a power far greater than domination: the power to transform hearts, including our own.

And then there’s mercy—that beautiful, radical choice to stop keeping score. How exhausting it is to maintain a mental ledger of who wronged us, who owes us an apology, who hasn’t measured up to our expectations. Mercy invites us to put down that heavy accounting book and simply love. It doesn’t mean we ignore harm or enable destructive behavior, but it does mean we refuse to let past wounds dictate our present responses. When we stop counting offenses, we make room for healing, for second chances, for the kind of love that reflects the heart of Jesus himself.

This is the invitation before us today: to embrace a strength that doesn’t need to win and a mercy that freely forgives. It’s not easy—our egos resist it, our hurt fights against it. But when we choose this path, we discover something remarkable. We find freedom from the exhausting need to control, to be right, to settle scores. We step into the flow of divine love, where grace becomes our foundation and mercy becomes our response to a broken world. This is how we live fully, loved and loving in return.

THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…

Today, consider where you might be straining to dominate rather than resting in grace. Is there someone whose offenses you’ve been tallying, someone who needs your mercy instead of your scorecard? What would it feel like to lay down that burden and simply love?
