TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:
It emerges when joy is allowed to coexist with grief without either being denied. It does. Grace is not a reward for goodness. It is the ground on which goodness becomes possible. No. Grace is strength that does not need to dominate. Mercy that does not keep score. Because grace is not fragile. It does not retreat from darkness. It overwhelms it
REFLECTION
How often do we try to push away our grief in order to make room for joy? We tell ourselves we should be happy, that we need to “stay positive,” as if sadness is something to be ashamed of. But this passage reveals a profound truth: real transformation happens when we stop denying parts of our experience. When we let joy and grief sit side by side at the table of our hearts, something sacred emerges. Grace doesn’t ask us to pretend. It invites us to be whole, to be human, to be honest.
And here’s what changes everything: grace isn’t something we earn through perfect behavior or spiritual achievement. It’s not the trophy at the end of the race. Grace is the ground beneath our feet, the very foundation that makes our stumbling steps toward goodness even possible. It’s strength without the need to prove itself. It’s mercy that doesn’t keep a running tally of our failures. So many of us exhaust ourselves trying to be “good enough” for God’s love, when all along, His grace has been holding us up, making every act of kindness, every moment of courage, every breath of faith possible.
Perhaps most powerfully, this passage reminds us that grace is not some delicate, fragile thing that needs to be protected from the harsh realities of life. Grace doesn’t run from our darkness—our depression, our addiction, our shame, our deepest fears. Grace doesn’t retreat. It advances. It overwhelms. It floods into the broken places and transforms them. When you feel surrounded by darkness today, remember: grace is stronger. Love is stronger. And it’s already at work in you, making goodness possible even when you can’t see it yet.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
What darkness in your life needs to be overwhelmed by grace today? Where have you been trying to earn what has already been freely given? Sit with this truth: you are standing on the ground of grace right now, and it is strong enough to hold you.
