TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:
“Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” They want to know what to do, how to practice, how to be sure they are hearing you and not their own thoughts. “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure… think about these things.” Lord Jesus… my life has held very high highs — wonder, beauty, meaning — and very low lows — loss, despair, confusion.
REFLECTION
Life rarely travels in straight lines, does it? We soar through seasons of wonder and beauty, where everything feels aligned and meaningful. Then, sometimes without warning, we plunge into valleys of loss and confusion where we can barely recognize ourselves. This passage captures that raw honesty—the acknowledgment that a faithful life doesn’t mean a flat line of constant contentment, but rather a journey through peaks and valleys, all held within the peace of Christ.
What strikes me most here is the practical question embedded in this spiritual truth: How do we know we’re hearing His voice and not just our own thoughts? It’s the question we all ask when we’re desperate for guidance, isn’t it? The answer Jesus gives is beautifully simple yet profound—focus your mind on what is true, honorable, just, and pure. When our thoughts align with these qualities, we’re tuning into a frequency beyond our own limited understanding. We’re opening ourselves to a peace that doesn’t depend on our circumstances being perfect.
The peace Christ offers isn’t the world’s peace—it’s not dependent on everything going right, on avoiding hardship, or on maintaining those “high highs” forever. It’s a peace that holds us steady through both the wonder and the despair. It’s the anchor that remains when everything else shifts. When we discipline our minds to dwell on truth, honor, justice, and purity, we create space for His voice to break through the noise of our fears and troubles. This is the practice. This is how we hear Him.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
Where are you today—in a high or a low, or somewhere in between? What would it mean for you to receive Christ’s peace right now, not as a reward for having it all together, but as a gift freely given in the midst of your actual life? Perhaps today is your invitation to redirect your thoughts toward what is true and pure, and discover His voice waiting there.
