Forgiveness reflects the nature of your Creator — Love itself. In choosing forgiveness, you allowed Love to replace confusion and clarity to replace pain. After the bankruptcy, we moved into a temporary second-story flat. Nearby was a lake, and at the end of a dock sat a beautiful sailboat. The scent of the water and the movement of the air were irresistible. Without understanding ownership or law, I climbed aboard an unattended sailboat. I untied the mooring line, pulled in the mainsail, and took hold of the tiller. Though I had no training or experience, I navigated the boat easily across the lake. I felt no fear — only freedom. I returned the boat safely to the dock, astonishing the owner and those watching nearby.

When we choose forgiveness, we’re essentially untying ourselves from the moorings of resentment, fear, and pain. We’re stepping into unknown waters, trusting that Love itself will guide us.

And just like that sailboat returned safely to dock, we too will find our way home, astonishing even ourselves with what Love makes possible.
