TODAY’S PASSAGE

“The word of God is living and active… discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
REFLECTION
These words cut straight to the core, don’t they? The living Word of God doesn’t just sit on a page—it actively works within us, exposing what we’d sometimes rather keep hidden. It reveals the truth about our hearts: that harboring hatred toward another person, nursing that grudge, feeding that resentment—it’s a form of murder. Not with weapons, but with the slow poison of bitterness that kills our own capacity for eternal life. This isn’t meant to condemn us, but to wake us up. How many of us carry around little murders in our hearts, justified by past hurts, wrapped in the language of being “right”?
But here’s the beautiful contrast Michael Canfield brings to light: love stands as the complete opposite of this death-dealing hatred. Real love—the kind described here—isn’t the sentimental feeling we see in movies. It’s patient when we want to lash out. It’s kind when we feel justified in being cruel. Will we be honest about the hatred we’ve disguised as “boundaries” or “standing up for ourselves”? And most importantly, will we choose the way of love—that patient, enduring, hope-filled love that transforms murderers into saints? This is the invitation Jesus extends to each of us every single day. Not perfection, but direction. Not instant transformation, but willing surrender to Love Himself.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
Today, I’m invited to examine my own heart honestly. Where have I allowed hatred to take root, even in small ways? Who do I need to extend patient, enduring love toward—even when they don’t deserve it? The living Word is active right now, ready to transform my heart if I’ll let it.
