TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:
They want to know what to do, how to practice, how to be sure they are hearing you and not their own thoughts. “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure… think about these things.” Lord Jesus… my life has held very high highs – wonder, beauty, meaning – and very low lows – loss, despair, confusion. And yet, when I look honestly, I have remained mostly at peace. I have always been – for the most part – a happy man.
REFLECTION
How often do we find ourselves asking the same question: “How do I know if this is God speaking or just my own thoughts?” We want a formula, a step-by-step guide, some kind of spiritual GPS to confirm we’re on the right path. But the answer Jesus gives is beautifully simple and profoundly challenging: focus your thoughts on what is true, honorable, just, and pure. When we align our minds with these qualities, we create space for the divine voice to break through the noise of our own anxieties and assumptions.
What strikes me most about this passage is the honest acknowledgment of life’s extremes. The author doesn’t pretend to have lived on some peaceful plateau, untouched by suffering. He’s experienced the soaring heights of wonder and beauty, and he’s also walked through the dark valleys of loss and despair. This is real life—not the sanitized version we sometimes present to the world, but the messy, complicated, beautiful reality of being human. And yet, threaded through all of it is this remarkable testimony: peace has remained. Not because circumstances were always favorable, but because something deeper was anchoring his soul.
This is the mystery and the miracle of a life lived in communion with Love itself. Peace isn’t the absence of storms; it’s the presence of Christ in the midst of them. Happiness isn’t pretending everything is fine; it’s knowing that even when things fall apart, we are held by something—Someone—unshakeable. When we practice directing our thoughts toward truth, honor, justice, and purity, we’re not just thinking positive thoughts. We’re tuning our hearts to the frequency of divine love, and in that space, peace becomes possible even when nothing else makes sense.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
Today, whatever high or low you’re experiencing, you can choose where to focus your thoughts. Are you dwelling on what is true and pure, or are you lost in the spiral of fear and confusion? The voice of Jesus invites you to peace—not someday when life settles down, but right now, in the middle of your beautiful, complicated reality.
