TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:
“Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” They want to know what to do, how to practice, how to be sure they are hearing you and not their own thoughts. “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure… think about these things.” Lord Jesus… my life has held very high highs — wonder, beauty, meaning — and very low lows — loss, despair, confusion.
REFLECTION
Life has a way of taking us on a rollercoaster we never asked to ride. One moment we’re soaring through seasons of wonder and beauty, feeling connected to something greater, and the next we’re plummeting into valleys of loss and confusion. If you’ve experienced both the mountaintops and the depths, you’re not alone. This passage speaks directly to that universal human experience—the wild oscillation between joy and despair that marks our earthly journey.
But here’s the beautiful promise embedded in these words: Jesus offers us a peace that isn’t dependent on our circumstances. The world gives conditional peace—peace when things go well, peace when we’re winning, peace when life makes sense. But the peace Christ offers transcends all of that. It’s a peace that can hold us steady even when we’re in the valley, even when nothing makes sense, even when our hearts want to be troubled and afraid. This isn’t about denying our pain or pretending the lows don’t hurt. It’s about anchoring ourselves to something deeper than our circumstances.
The practical guidance is profound in its simplicity: focus your thoughts on what is true, honorable, just, and pure. In our anxiety, we often want a ten-step program or a foolproof method to distinguish God’s voice from our own racing thoughts. But Jesus points us toward something more fundamental—a reorientation of our minds toward goodness itself. When we deliberately direct our attention toward truth and beauty, toward justice and purity, we create space for divine peace to enter. We train ourselves to recognize the voice of Love because we’re learning Love’s language.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
How are you navigating your own highs and lows today? What would it look like to anchor yourself in Christ’s peace—not the world’s conditional comfort, but the deep, unshakeable peace that remains constant through every season? Where in your life right now do you need to intentionally focus on what is true, honorable, just, and pure?
