Donald Trump just won “bigly” in Iowa, but the Deep State is already working overtime to make sure that it doesn’t matter. In perhaps the most brazen show of power yet, the Deep State has openly announced its plan to take down Trump if he wins in November.
“Fears grow that Trump will use the military in ‘dictatorial ways’ if he returns to the White House,” NBC News reported Sunday. This is all par for the course, as every corporate media outlet has spent the past two months talking about Trump the Dictator, who will supposedly override the Constitution, activate the military as a private force, and purge the federal government. But NBC goes a step further.
A network of public interest groups and lawmakers, nervous about former President Trump’s potential return to power, is quietly devising plans to foil any effort on his part to pressure the U.S. military to carry out his political agenda. https://t.co/jLbRqC2riT

The outlet describes a plan ostensibly aimed at ensuring Trump does not “convert the nonpartisan U.S. military into the muscular arm of his political agenda.” Of course, no president should weaponize the military this way, and (outside the Democrats’ fever dreams) there’s no reason to believe Trump is willing or able to do so given the already robust system of checks and balances. But these highly partisan actors are building a strawman to justify a preemptive strike on Trump
NBC speaks with the “loose-knit network of public interest groups and lawmakers” who are “quietly devising plans to try to foil any efforts to expand presidential power.” Should Trump win in November, this group is “preparing to take legal action and send letters to Trump appointees spelling out consequences they’d face if they undermine constitutional norms.”
“We’re already starting to put together a team to think through the most damaging types of things that [Trump] might do so that we’re ready to bring lawsuits if we have to,” said Mary McCord, executive director of the dystopian-named Institution for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection at Georgetown Law.
According to those involved in the discussions, they aim to “identify like-minded organizations and create a coalition to challenge Trump from day one.” They are “combing through policy papers” and “watching the interviews that Trump allies are giving to the press” to predict what a “Trump sequel” would look like.
“We are preparing for litigation and preparing to use every tool in the toolbox that our democracy provides to provide the American people an ability to fight back,” said Skye Perryman, president of Democracy Forward, an activist group that sued the Trump administration over 100 times during his first term.
This isn’t an attempt to build more robust mechanisms of democracy — it’s the exact opposite. There’s no watchful waiting; Trump is already guilty in their minds. This is a proactive effort to ensure that the Deep State remains in control from the moment Trump re-enters the White House.
Cut through the stuffy bureaucrat-speak, and you have nothing more than a muscular flex. Like Russiagate, the impeachment hoax, and the 2020 “Summer of Love,” it is an attempt to delegitimize Trump, scare off any competent staff, and most importantly, hobble his policy agenda, should democracy give him another chance to shake up the status quo.
The only difference this time is that they are openly bragging about it in the press. Their confidence in the ability to act with impunity is a show of power in itself. They can work to actively undermine democracy while calling their opponents dictators, and remain confident that no one will hold them to account. “Yes, we’re going to take down Trump again,” it says between the lines; “what the hell are you going to do about it?”
But the implications are more insidious than the piece openly reveals. One of the great innovations of the American Founders was to place the military under civilian control. The Founders were deeply skeptical of a standing army, but recognized its necessity for a still-weak and vulnerable nation. The answer, as it often does, came in the form of checks and balances. Subordinating the military to a civilian authority — the president — aimed to prevent tyranny from a group that otherwise has unchecked monopoly on the use of coercive force.
The Fake News is pushing anti-Trump propaganda calling Trump a dictator.
It’s the exact type of propaganda that we see from leaders in oppressive regimes throughout the world.
It’s a very dangerous trek for America. pic.twitter.com/RAhsBSbGou

What this plan will do is take the military out of civilian control. Does anyone believe this partisan army of activists and lawyers will work only to limit Trump in clear-cut cases of him usurping Constitutional authority? Of course not. Rather, they will work to limit him on any action they don’t like. It will empower the top brass of the military and intelligence agencies to act under their authority, to limit the branch of government constitutionally required to check their power.
If Trump decides to take action on China, Ukraine, Iran, or Israel that rebukes the liberal status quo, there will be military officials standing by to tell him why he can’t do that. They won’t just have coercive force behind them, they will have an army of well-funded “experts” arguing why they have the authority to use that force.
This is as close to an anti-democratic putsch as the Democrats have ever come, but the corporate media thinks it’s all alright because it stops the mean, orange man. They believe so deeply in the progressive right So much for democracy dies in darkness.
