Actor and director Denzel Washington chastised the media Tuesday over “BS” reporting, saying they should stick to the truth.

“Fake news” has become a discussion point since this year’s presidential election, and Washington himself was the subject of a fake story in August claiming he had switched his support from Democrat Hillary Clinton to Republican Donald Trump.

An effect of “too much information,” Washington said, is the “need to be first, not even to be true anymore.

“So what a responsibility you all have — to tell the truth,” Washington told a group of reporters at the red-carpet event. “In our society, now it’s just first — who cares, get it out there. We don’t care who it hurts. We don’t care who we destroy. We don’t care if it’s true. Just say it, sell it. Anything you practice you’ll get good at — including BS.”
