White House officials met with top Democrats as part of ongoing negotiations on the next coronavirus relief package. Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin met with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Saturday.
The group later reported progress is being made.
According to Mnuchin, the White House is interested in extending enhanced unemployment insurance and liability insurance. He added there’s a lot of bipartisan support.
The talks come after $600 supplemental unemployment benefit payments ended Friday night.

“It is a priority for the president to make sure that we deal with the issue that unemployment has run out, and the rental eviction,” explained Mnuchin. “So, we understand that the speaker and Sen. Schumer want to have an overall deal.”
Schumer has expressed the meeting was the “best discussion so far.”
Lawmakers will continue to work out details of the package on Sunday. Discussions will resume on Monday.
