REFLECTION
How often do we believe we must choose between joy and grief, as if holding both would somehow break us? We live in a world that tells us to “stay positive” or “get over it,” but this passage reveals a profound truth: grace creates space for the full spectrum of human emotion. When we allow ourselves to feel joy even in the midst of sorrow—or to acknowledge grief even during celebration—we’re not being contradictory. We’re being whole. This is where grace emerges, not as something we earn through emotional perfection, but as the very foundation that allows us to be authentically human.
The revelation that grace is not a reward but the ground itself changes everything. We spend so much energy trying to be “good enough” for God’s love, for blessing, for peace. This is the grace that Jesus embodied, the grace that meets us in our mess and transforms us not by condemnation, but by complete, unconditional love.
