TODAY’S PASSAGE

From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:

They want to know what to do, how to practice, how to be sure they are hearing you and not their own thoughts.

REFLECTION

This passage captures one of the most universal questions in the spiritual life: How do I know it’s really God speaking and not just my own mind? We’ve all been there—sitting in prayer or meditation, wondering if that gentle whisper of guidance is divine wisdom or simply our own wishful thinking. It’s a vulnerable place to be, this space of uncertainty, and yet it’s also deeply human. The very fact that we ask this question shows our sincere desire to align ourselves with something greater than our limited understanding.

What’s beautiful about this passage is that it acknowledges our need for practice. We wouldn’t expect to master a musical instrument without regular practice, yet somehow we think we should instantly recognize God’s voice without any training. Learning to discern divine guidance is a skill that develops over time, through patience, through mistakes, and through the willingness to keep showing up. It requires us to quiet the noise of our anxious thoughts, our fears, and our ego-driven desires so that we can hear that still, small voice that speaks in love.

The key is to remember that God’s voice always leads us toward love—love for ourselves, love for others, and love for the world. When we hear thoughts of condemnation, fear, or separation, we can be fairly certain that’s not the divine speaking. But when we sense compassion, peace, courage to do what’s right, or a call to extend kindness, we’re likely tuning into that sacred frequency. Trust grows as we practice listening, as we act on what we hear, and as we witness the fruits of following love’s guidance in our lives.

THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…

Today, I’m invited to be patient with myself as I learn to recognize divine guidance. Rather than demanding instant certainty, I can approach this as a loving practice, trusting that God honors my sincere desire to hear and follow the voice of love. What would it mean for me today to listen for the whisper that leads toward compassion rather than fear?
