President Trump said relations have improved with Denmark’s prime minister, after she reportedly insulted the U.S. for its offer on Greenland.
On Friday, the president revealed he had a great conversation with Mette Frederiksen, saying he appreciated her initiative to put a call in to speak with him.
He called her a very nice woman, and said the U.S. has a very good relationship with Denmark. His remarks comes after he noted things were tense when Frederiksen called his offer to buy Greenland from Denmark,”absurd.”
“Greenland was just an idea, just a thought. But I think when they say it was “absurd” and it was said in a very nasty, very sarcastic way,” President Trump told reporters. “We’ll make it some other time.” We’ll go to Denmark — I love Denmark. I’ve been to Denmark. And, frankly, we’ll do it another time. Respect has to be shown to the United States.”
After the conversation with Frederiksen, the president stated they have agreed to speak at a later date.
