A former Jeopardy! Champion and math professor at a private school in New York City has been charged with soliciting sexually explicit images of minors.

Last month, Winston Nguyen was arrested in front of his students at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn but was released days later as authorities launched an investigation into the matter.

Frank Rothman, his attorney, informed The New York Times that Nguyen turned himself in to the Brooklyn police early on Thursday.

“We arranged for his surrender with the prosecutors and detectives,” Rothman said. “He showed up and will be processed like any other defendant. We always expected this day to come.”

Nguyen victimized at least six children, five girls and one boy between the ages of 13-years-old and 15-years-old.

“He elicited from those minors photographs sent to him in various forms of nudity,” Assistant District Attorney Daniel Brian Newcombe said in Brooklyn Criminal Court Thursday.

Prosecutors claimed that between October 2022 and May 2024, he tried to trick kids into sending him “images of nudity and sexual performances” by using two separate Snapchat accounts.

According to authorities, he also gave some of the child porn he acquired to other victims.

In one case, prosecutors said he sent a 14-year-old a sexually explicit video of a nude boy, whom investigators tracked to another state and found he was 16-years-old.

In 2017, Nguyen was accused of stealing over $300,000 from an elderly couple he was providing home health care for on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The prosecution claimed he bought tickets to Broadway and ballet performances, as well as luxurious Florida vacations.

The following year, he entered a guilty plea to the charges and was given a sentence of five years of probation and six months in jail.

Nguyen served about five months on Rikers Island before being freed.

“It’s a terrible thing I did that will live within me,” he told a writer for the National Food Museum after his release.

Nguyen faces charges of use of a child in a sexual performance and promoting a sexual performance, among other felonies. His bail has been set at $30,000.

In 2014, the suspect appeared on Jeopardy!, on which he won more than $11,000 across two appearances.
