TODAY’S PASSAGE
From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:
This inward turning also brought with it a sense of satisfaction — a quiet happiness — when understanding came through your own effort. Children begin life closely attuned to their inner sense of being. As they grow, many are drawn away from that awareness by fear, expectation, and pressure. When children are guided gently, they are more likely to remain connected to what brings them peace. What you were learning, without words for it then, was how to listen inwardly — and how to return to Love when confusion arose. By the sixth grade, I began to develop greater self-confidence. I had been raised Catholic, but over time I sensed something was no longer in alignment for me. I could not yet explain it clearly, but I felt a growing distance between what I was being taught and what I experienced inwardly as true.
REFLECTION
There’s something profoundly beautiful about that moment when you realize your inner knowing is trying to speak to you. We all begin life with this natural connection to truth, this gentle awareness of what feels right and what doesn’t. But somewhere along the way—through well-meaning parents, religious institutions, societal expectations, or our own fears—we learn to silence that voice. We’re taught to look outward for answers instead of inward, to trust authority over intuition, to follow the crowd even when our soul whispers a different direction.
This passage reminds us that the journey back to ourselves isn’t about rebellion or rejection—it’s about alignment. When Michael speaks of sensing a distance between what he was taught and what he experienced inwardly as true, he’s describing something many of us have felt but struggled to name. It’s not that everything we learned was wrong; it’s that our souls are seeking a more authentic expression of Love. That “quiet happiness” that comes from discovering truth through your own inner exploration is irreplaceable. It’s the satisfaction of knowing you’re not just following someone else’s map—you’re learning to navigate by your own inner compass, always pointing back toward Love.
The beautiful promise here is that we can return. No matter how far we’ve strayed from that childlike attunement to peace, no matter how many layers of fear and expectation we’ve accumulated, we can learn again to listen inwardly. When confusion arises—and it will—we have a choice. We can frantically search outside ourselves for answers, or we can pause, breathe, and turn inward to that place where Love resides. This is the practice: not perfection, but return. Again and again, choosing to come home to the truth that lives within you.
THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…
Where in your life have you felt that distance between what you’re “supposed” to believe and what you know inwardly to be true? What would it look like today to turn inward with gentleness, to listen for that quiet voice of Love beneath the noise of expectation and fear?
