TODAY’S PASSAGE

From “Voice Of Jesus 2” by Michael Canfield:

Looking back, it might seem like a perfect life, but it took effort, patience, and commitment from both of us. Still, it was a wonderful experience I will always cherish. Could you explain this?

REFLECTION

There’s something profoundly honest in these words that cuts through the illusion we so often create about “perfect” lives. When we look at others—or even our own past through the soft lens of memory—we can forget the tears, the late nights, the moments of doubt, and the countless decisions to keep showing up when it would have been easier to walk away. This passage reminds us that nothing beautiful comes without cost, and that cost is paid in the currency of effort, patience, and commitment.

What strikes me most is the phrase “from both of us.” Love—whether it’s the love between partners, friends, family, or our relationship with the Divine—is never a solo journey. It requires two willing hearts, both choosing daily to invest, to forgive, to grow, and to stay. The perfection others might see from the outside is actually the fruit of countless imperfect moments handled with grace. It’s the result of two people (or a person and God) refusing to give up on each other when things got hard.

And yet, despite acknowledging all that hard work, the speaker calls it “a wonderful experience I will always cherish.” This is the paradox of love: the very struggles that test us become the foundation of our most treasured memories. The effort doesn’t diminish the joy—it deepens it. When we know what something cost us, we hold it more carefully, appreciate it more fully, and understand its true value. This is the voice of Jesus speaking through lived experience, reminding us that the path of love is both challenging and utterly worth it.

THIS SPEAKS TO ME BECAUSE…

Today, I’m invited to look at my own life and relationships with fresh honesty. Where have I been tempted to give up because things weren’t “perfect”? What beautiful experiences am I building right now through my daily choices to show up with effort, patience, and commitment—even when no one else sees the work I’m putting in?
